The International Policy & Economics Lecture Series (IPE) features numerous prominent LSE alumni in the Washington, DC area.
Margaret McCown is a senior analyst with the Congressional division of National Defense University's National Strategic Gaming Center where she designs and executes strategic level simulation exercises for Congressional and senior Executive branch participants. In addition to building exercises on a range of homeland and national security topics, Dr. McCown also continues to travel and publish in support of an active research agenda focused on European politics, international security and game design. This lectures draws from an edited volume which she is organizing on methods and analysis using qualitatively specified games. Recent articles also deal with security and regional integration initiatives (Korea Institute of National Integration, July 2006), EU interest groups' recourse to litigation versus lobbying strategies (Journal of European Politics and Policy, Spring 2007), and strategic game design (Joint Force Quarterly, 2005).
Prior to joining NDU, Dr. McCown was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Research in Collective Goods in Bonn where she wrote and published on European Union judicial politics and participated in several working groups on bounded rationality and institutional design. She holds a doctorate from Oxford University (2004, Nuffield College), a masters in European Politics and Policy from the LSE (1998) and a B.A. in political science from St. Mary's College of Maryland.
