AFLSE Washington DC Chapter July Newsletter

The DC chapter of the AFLSE has several exciting events and affiliate events planned for July!
Firstly, the Monthly Happy Hour will be back to its usual third Wednesday, July 20th. This is a fun and casual way to interact with area alumni. Friends welcome. Details:

AFLSE DC will also be hosting a Bon Voyage party incoming students and alumni on Saturday, July 16th. Alumni are encouraged to attend to meet with students en route to the LSE, and to share their experiences and give advice on living and studying in London. Students have the opportunity to meet and network with others who are also embarking on the same adventure in the fall. Details:

AFLSE Washington DC members and their friends are invited to a Boat Cruise co-hosted and attended by the University of Pennsylvania DC Alumni Association. The annual event will take place rain or shine on Friday, July 29th, from 6:30 until 8:30pm. Some light appetizers and a cash bar featuring beer/wine/soft drinks, as well as ½ price margaritas will be available. Details:

If you are coming by Metro, go to the Smithsonian stop (Blue/Orange line), exit at 12th and Independence, walk south on 12th St. to Maryland Ave., turn right and continue to front of Mandarin Oriental Hotel, walk around left side of hotel and go down steps, continue on the walkway and cross over footbridge towards large boats. If you are driving, there is a pay lot immediately in front of the dock for $10/car.

AFLSE Alumni are also invited to an affiliate event by the English-Speaking Union. On Thursday, July 14th The English-Speaking Union are having a reception honoring Bob Woodward at the Ambassador's Residence of the British Embassy. Details:

Tickets are $125 per person (tax-deductible documentation provided on request) and should be purchased online in advance at http://www.aflse.org/store.html?event_id=1558. The AFLSE DC Chapter will not have any events in the month of August, so we do hope you are able to join us for some/all of July's events!
