The Washington DC Chapter of the AFLSE will host Dr. Daniela Gressani, Deputy to Director General of the Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank Group for a Discussion on "The World Bank Group's role during the Global Crisis".

The World Bank Group has played a strong countercyclical role in emerging and developing countries during the global crisis. The discussion will cover what happened to developingcountries, how the World Bank Group responded, what worked well and less well in the response, and the crucial question about sustainability: the WBG helped to avert a harsher downturn in the near term, but did it also help to reduce vulnerabilities -- economic, socialand environmental?
An advance RSVP is required - all attendee's full names, including guests, must be provided in advance for admittance to the lecture.

Daniela Gressani is Deputy to Director General of the Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank Group. IEG assesses what works, and what does not, in World Bank Group's programs. Daniela has worked at the World Bank since 1988 as an economist and manager, most recently as vice president for the Middle East and North Africa Region. Prior to joining the World Bank, she worked as a research economist at the Italian central bank. She studied at the University of Rome, theLondon School of Economics, and the University of Pennsylvania.
