AFLSE DC Chapter November Events: 11/4 Mixer; 11/17 Happy Hour; 11/18 Panel; 11/19 Luncheon

The DC AFLSE chapter has several exciting events coming up this month including a mixer with other British University alumni groups, a happy hour, a roundtable speakers luncheon, and a panel speakers event
This Thursday, November 4th, the AFLSE DC Chapter will be hosting a Guy Fawkes night mixer. The event will be co-hosted and attended by the DC alumni chapters of Oxford, Cambridge, Kings, St. Andrews, Edinburgh, SOAS, and the London School of Tropical Medicine. This will be a great opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow alumni from other British universities in an informal setting. No RSVP is necessary.

AFLSE's third Wednesday happy hour will be held as usual. LSE alumni, recent grads, future students, and friends are all welcome to attend. No RSVP is necessary.

On Friday, November 19th, from Noon - 1:30pm, AFLSE will be hosting a luncheon speakers event with Julian Le Grand, Richard Titmuss Professor of Social Policy and Chair of LSE Health Committee. Julian LeGrand acted as a senior policy adviser to the Prime Minister in 2003-5 and has acted as an adviser to the World Bank, the World Health Organisation, Her Majesty's Treasury and the UK Department of Health. He is currently a member of the Group of Societal Policy Analysts advising the President of the European Commission. He will be speaking on "Health Care Reform: Patients or Consumers?". AFLSE Members have also been invited by the The Sciences Po Alumni Association and the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs to a panel discussion on "EU/US Relations - The End of the Affair?". On the eve of the next EU/US summit to be held on November 20th, it will be timely to discuss the expected outcomes of this summit and what this new context means for the transatlantic relationship. Speakers include Justin Vaïsse - Director of Research for the Center on the United States and Europe at Brookings; Daniel S. Hamilton, Ph.D - Executive Director of the Center for Transatlantic Relations at the School of Advanced International Studies – Johns Hopkins University; Rhian Chilcott - Head of the Washington Office of the Confederation of British Industry. The event will be moderated by Nicholas Siegel, Program Officer at the Transatlantic Academy, German Marshall Fund. This event is free and open to the public. A reception with refreshments will follow. RSVP's must be received no later than November 12th to washingtondc@sciencespo.org.
