AFLSE/LA Upcoming Events

Dear Reader,

We hope you have had a rejuvenating holiday season.  The outlook for this coming year is pretty grim.  Please let us know your ideas about how best to harness the power of our AFLSE/LA chapter in mitigating the economic downturn.  888 alums and friends receive this newsletter.  How could reaching these people enhance your life?  What is the best approach?  Let us know.

Would you like to start a special interest group?  For example, people in entertainment, single dads who like to golf, surfers for world peace.

What other way would you like to get involved in our chapter?

RECAP

We enjoyed two holiday events - an all Ivy business school drinks mixer in West Hollywood and a Santa Brunch at our co-chair Elizabeth's house (with some open minded folks featuring at both).  A good time was had by all.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Again this month the LA chapter has a stunning array of events.

Tuesday January 26th 5.30 - 8.30pm - we (and other Ivy-type business school alums) are invited to the Kelloggs Alum group drinks mixer at Lola's on Fairfax in West Hollywood.  No entrance fee.  For more information see aflse.org

THEATER TRIP

Saturday January 30th 2pm - our annual trip to the traditional British Pantomime at the Mayflower Club in North Hollywood (directly opposite Target).  $12 for adults $6 for children.  Pantomimes are musical, funny, interactive, brightly colored performances for all the family.  Alcohol is served throughout and eccles cakes and overstewed tea is available in the intermission.  If you liked England in the 1970's, you'll LOVE the Mayflower Club.  Please contact them directly for tix at mayflowerclub.org but also RSVP to us so we know to look out for you losangeles@aflse.org Festival seating.  For more info see aflse.org or click here: Los Angeles: Traditional British Pantomime

CHESS TOURNAMENT

Saturday February 27th 10am - alums and the children in their lives are invited to attend Chess Day at Wonderland Avenue Elementary School in Laurel Canyon.  Tix $10 per person.  Learn the basics or advanced techniques, play in a tournament, pit your wits against a nationally ranked 5th grader to win big.  Please bring your own chess set if possible.  For more information see aflse.org or click here: Los Angeles: Family Friendly Chess Tournament

OUT OF TOWN EVENT

NY based alum Derek Smith has asked us to let you know about an event he is putting on called Differentiated Content in the Blogosphere and how to capture it.  Please click here for more information:  www.talkforumnyc.com

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.  Please bring your friends, family and colleagues.  Please let us know how you would like to step up to help with our chapter.

Happy New Year
