LSE in Chicago - Save January 28 for Nate Silver and FiveThirtyEight.com

Dear Reader,

SAVE THE DATE!

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28, 2009

(evening time and location TBD)

Plan on joining LSE in Chicago and LSE Alum Nate Silver -- creator of political website FiveThirtyEight.com -- for an evening of political discourse.

FiveThirtyEight.com: Politics Done Right

FiveThirtyEight.com, named after the number of electors in the United States electoral college, is a political website established in March 2008 by Nate Silver. The site compiles polling data through a unique methodology derived from Silver's experience in baseball sabermetrics to "balance out the polls with comparative demographic data" and "weighting each poll based on the pollster's historical track record, sample size, and recentness of the poll."

Nate Silver is an American statistician who first gained public recognition for inventing PECOTA, a system for forecasting the performance and career development of Major League Baseball players, and serves as Managing Partner of Baseball Prospectus.  In 2007 Silver began to publish analyses and predictions relating to the United States presidential election, 2008. At first this work appeared on the political blog Daily Kos, but in March 2008 Silver established his own website, FiveThirtyEight.com. By Summer of that year he began to appear as an electoral and political analyst in national print, online, and on cable news programs. He resides in Chicago, Illinois.
