AFLSE Student Connection Newsletter - September 2008
Dear Reader,
Here are a few items to consider before you leave for London:
ARRANGE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT BEFORE LEAVING ARRIVING IN LONDON
Some Banks in England require proof of address in the UK before opening an account. This can be difficult for some students to arrange quickly. AFLSE has made an arrangement with Lloyds TSB to allow for account opening documentation to be started before leaving the US.

REGISTER WITH THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE (NHS) IN ADVANCE
LSE students can receive medical care from St. Phillips Medical Centre through the NHS. However, if you have never lived in the United Kingdom, you will need to register with the NHS. Do it in advance to ensure expediency if you become ill! Information available at http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/medicalCentre/nhsRegistration.htm
REGISTER AS AN OVERSEAS VOTER IN NOVEMBER ELECTION
Cast your vote in the Nov. 4 U.S. Presidential Election by registering as an overseas voter! Information available at http://www.fvap.gov/ The deadline is approaching!
GRAPHING CALCULATORS Many programs require that students bring their own calculators, often graphing calculators, for use in Quantitative Methods courses. These are much cheaper to purchase in the U.S. than in London, so consider purchasing one in advance. Check the requirements for your courses at http://www.lse.ac.uk/resources/graduateProspectus2009/departmentsInstitutesCentres/Default.htm
WEATHERPlan for the weather in London! Average temperatures for every month can be found here: http://golondon.about.com/od/planningyourtrip/qt/weather.htm
That’s all for now! Remember to join our Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=33092039544
Best of luck in your journey to London! Looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible once we are all there.
Sincerely,
Brett Noble
