Register Now to Meet the New British Consul General 8 April

Dear Reader,

AFLSE Boston is hosting a reception at the British Consulate to welcome the new Consul General.
Please join us on Tuesday, 8 April, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. to welcome Dr Phillip Budden to our fair city.

British Consulate General, 1 Memorial Drive, 15th Floor, Cambridge MA 02142

Dr. Philip Budden was appointed Consul General to New England following the departure of the previous Consul General, John Rankin, in April. Dr. Budden arrived into his new post on 20 August with his family, and is looking forward to getting to know the New England region, its people and the world-renowned local institutions that figure so prominently globally.

Prior to his assignment in Boston, Consul General Budden was the First Secretary for the UK's US Science, Technology, Innovation and Business network (including Boston), as well as technology policy, transatlantic relations and British-American business affairs. His posting to this region is an obvious fit given his strengths in these important areas.

His foreign office career has also included postings in London to the European Secretariat, which advises the Prime Minister on EU strategies, and supported the UK's Europe Minister. He was also head of a Public Diplomacy effort that today has led to, among many other innovations, placing science at the heart of UK foreign and public diplomacy.

Consul General Budden received his D.Phil, MA and BA from Oxford University (Lincoln College), and an MA from Cornell University (USA). Born in Southampton, England (home of many famous sailings including the Mayflower and the Titanic) he married his wife Deborah on Cape Cod in 1992. Together, they live with their two daughters on Beacon Hill.

Advance registration before noon on April 7th is required. Your name must be on the RSVP list and you will need to show a photo ID at the building entrance.
