AFLSE January 2008 National Newsletter
Dear Reader,
This is the first national newsletter for 2008 and we look forward to making the AFLSE relevant to your social, professional and intellectual networking throughout the year.
Our main news item this month is our thanks to our generous donors. Although the AFLSE is run by volunteers, it costs money to produce and manage the website and run the AFLSE office. We appreciate your membership dues which cover our basic costs, but donor dollars allow us to do more. Without these kind gifts we would not have been able to launch chapter newsletters this year or the new chapter pages (see New York as the first) which we will roll out in the next quarter.
Donors have also made contributions to the AFLSE scholarship fund. We are proud of our record of having given over 100 scholarships for studies at LSE since our inception. The latest AFLSE scholar is Julie Hunter, more information available below.
The events in the AFLSE calendar for January demonstrate our commitment to fulfilling our mandate. There is an LSE reception in New Orleans at the AEA/ASSA annual conference. New York and San Francisco will have their monthly happy hours as well as New York’s famous annual wine tasting. Additionally New York and Washington will have speakers, an LSE professor for New York and an eminent LSE alumnus for Washington. See specifics below.
Best wishes for a peaceful and successful New Year.
