Dear Reader,

The Chicago AFLSE is hosting a Presentation and Reception in honor of Dr. George Lawson, Associate Professor in the International Relations Department at the LSE, on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 5:15pm - 7:15pm at Chapman and Cutler LLP, 111 W. Monroe, Chicago, IL

*RSVP* Please send an email to:  chicago@aflse.org  to reserve your space (and to include your name on the security list).

Dr. Lawson will be discussing his recent work on how the basic character of international relations is shifting to one of "soft geopolitics" between "competing capitalisms" as well as his research on intervention in the Middle East and particularly in Syria.  Dr. Lawson's theoretical work revolves around the synergies between historical sociology and international relations. He is the convenor of the BISA-funded working group on Historical Sociology and International Relations (www.historical-sociology.org). Dr Lawson's empirical research focuses on processes of radical change including revolutions and democratisation.  Please visit the following link for more information about Dr. Lawson's research:   http://www.lse.ac.uk/researchAndExpertise/Experts/profile.aspx?KeyValue=g.lawson%40lse.ac.uk
