AFLSE DC Chapter April Newsletter

 

Dear Reader,

The AFLSE DC Chapter will not be holding its regular monthly happy hour in April. Instead, members are encouraged to attend the reception hosted Philip Barton, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy, featuring special guest LSE Pro-Director Stuart Corbridge. This event will be held on Tuesday, April 17th, however, registration for this event closes next Wednesday, April 11th. Details: 

Date/Time: Tuesday April 17th, 2012 from 6:30 until 8:00pm

Cost/Registration: Cost is $15 per person attending. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine/beer are included. This event is currently open to dues-paid AFLSE members only.  Each AFLSE member may buy no more than two tickets (one for the member and one for a guest).  Click here to buy tickets and RSVP.

All attendees must register in advance, providing their full names and names of their guests. Registration will close on Wednesday April 11th, 2012. Space is limited.

Also, please register/save the date for AFLSE's volunteering morning with the the Hands On DC work-a-thon on May 19th 

Each spring at Hands On DC's annual Work-a-thon, over 2,000 Hands on DC volunteers from across Washington, DC spend one day working in approximately 30 DC public schools on basic improvement projects such as painting, cleaning, landscaping, and special projects like rehabilitating playgrounds and wiring classrooms for Internet access.

Date/Time: Saturday, April 30th, 2011. Volunteers will arrive at schools at 9:00 and work on projects until 2pm, taking a break for lunch as a group. A celebration party with the other teams/locations will take place at a location TBD later that night.
 
Location: The LSE Team will most likely be placed at Booker T Washington School, a five minute walk from the U Street Station on the Yellow/Green Lines. Project will include landscaping and painting projects.
 
Friends and family including children ages 12+ are welcome to join.

AFLSE DC Members have also been invited by the Edinburgh University Club in DC for their Annual Whiskey Tasting event on Wednesday, April 18th. Details:

When?
Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00pm.
Where?
The Dining Saloon at Jack Rose
2007 18th Street NW
Washington, DC 20009
What?
The event will commence with a delicious whisky-based cocktail, custom made for this event. This will be followed with a sampling of four different single malt Scottish whiskies that represent the wide variety of whisky that hails from Scotland. There will be a whisky expert on hand to provide details of the whiskies that we will be tasting, and to answer any questions you have. Hors d'oeurves will be served.
Cost?
$45 per person. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking on the following link:

Who?
While this is an Edinburgh University Alumni Club of DC event, all are welcome! Please feel free to invite family and friends.
Other Details:
Please let us know if you wish to join us for dinner on the upstairs terrace at Jack Rose after the whisky tasting (dinner not included in the price of the whisky tasting).
