The program:
This summer, Shanghai meets The Big Apple. On Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 8:00 p.m., Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (SSO), conducted by Long Yu, and internationally acclaimed pianist Lang Lang share the stage with the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Andrey Boreyko at Central Park’s the Great Lawn. The event, celebrating The World Expo 2010 Shanghai and the partnership between the two cities, launches this year’s New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks series, presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer.
This historic event marks the first occasion that another orchestra has shared the stage with the New York Philharmonic on the Great Lawn. With all eyes looking to Shanghai as it hosts the recently launched Expo 2010, The World’s Fair, through October, The New York Philharmonic joins the global community in celebrating Shanghai, the cultural and economic capital of China.
The July 13th program will feature Shanghai Symphony Orchestra perfroming the Overture to Wagner’s Tannhauser; arias by Rossini, Gounod, and Mozart, as well as Jin Fuzai’s Go and See the World, the official song of the Expo, featuring soloists Ying Huang, soprano, and Changyong Liao, baritone.
