The Politics and Policy of Sovereign Debt Restructuring – In Conversation with Robin Wigglesworth

In the modern nexus of economics, finance, politics and policy, one of the most important issues is how sovereign states tackle excessive debt burdens. Government indebtedness has been on the rise for decades, accelerating post 2008, and the challenges of sovereign debt restructuring remain real for a number of states globally. As such, it is important to analyse and interpret the politics and policy of sovereign debt restructuring in the modern world.

Consequently, AFLSE, in association with the LSE Civil Service, Public Policy and Government Alumni Group, are delighted to invite you to The Politics and Policy of Sovereign Debt Restructuring – In Conversation with Robin Wigglesworth.

Chaired by Edward Price, Americas editor of the International Financial Law Review, the discussion will dig into Robin’s views on the nature of sovereign debt restructuring, why it’s such an important topic in the modern world and how to analyse the issue from a political and policy-based perspective.

Discussing the key issues and instances of sovereign debt restructuring, Robin will also talk us through some of his favourite stories from the past few years. The event will thus be a chance to really dig down into a crucial issue in modern global affairs, and learn from one of LSE’s most prominent and well-informed alumni working in the field. It will, too, be a chance to hear from Robin on what makes a world class financial journalist tick.

After brief presentations, a discussion among attendees and speakers will proceed along Chatham House rules.
