Four LSE Economists Win Teaching Awards

LSE’s award-winning economists show teaching and research excellence.

Professor Alwyn Young and Iain Long shared the Outstanding Teaching Award for 2008 in the Learning and Teaching in Economics Awards which are run by the Economics Network.  In nominating Professor Young, the Economics Department at LSE pointed out that his students spontaneously applaud at the end of his lectures and speak of his "enthusiastic and brilliant teaching" and of someone with "contagious enthusiasm" who "loves what he does and spreads it naturally to people around him." He shares the national award with teaching fellow Mr. Long, who works closely with him as a course manager.

In the category for teachers nominated by their own students, Kosuke Aoki and Sanchari Roy were both commended--meaning that LSE staff took four of the seven prizes on offer.   Miss Roy was also previously nominated for the LSE Student Union Teaching Excellence awards by her students, who cited her enthusiasm for her subject and the encouragement she gives students both in class and in office hours.   Another member of the Economics Department, Professor Oliver Linton, who specializes in econometrics, has been elected a Fellow of the British Academy to recognize his distinguished study.
