Alisa Alston (2006)

Alisa graduated magna cum laude from Howard University with a BBA in International Business. Immediately following graduation, she joined Merrill Lynch as a financial analyst in the Investment Banking division. Upon completion of the two-year program, Alisa accepted a position as an Associate Investment Officer with the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, seeking to transition from corporate finance to economic development finance. Most recently, she embarked on a professional sabbatical, which included a seven-month independent journey through Australia, Asia and Africa and an extended stay in the Dominican Republic, where she volunteered with a local community organization.

Alisa will be pursuing an MSc in Social Policy and Development at LSE during the 2006-2007 academic year. Her interest in this area is a result of wanting to study not only the theories and models of international economic development, but to also to learn how to incorporate social development concepts into practical and effective business models for the overall benefit of citizens in developing nations. At the end of the program, she intends to continue her education by entering into an MBA program and subsequently returning to a professional career in international economic development finance and investment with regional emphasis in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
