Dr Anne Bohm joined LSE as a research assistant in 1942 and devoted herself to the School until her retirement in 1985. She became Secretary of the Graduate School in 1945, at a time when higher education was invigorated by an influx of ex-servicemen returning from the war, and described the post-war period as a golden one for graduate studies at LSE. Dr Bohm retired as Secretary in 1985. She continued to contribute much to the School after her retirement, and was elected an honorary fellow in 1988. She was awarded an OBE in 1991, and awarded the Brazilian Order of Rio Branco in October 2002.
The Anne Bohm Scholarship was launched in the summer of 2000 to celebrate Dr Bohm's 90th birthday. It was established in recognition of the work for which she is best known: a supporter of, and advocate for, LSE students. It is open to all taught masters students taking a one year full time programme of study at the School.
