AFLSE Houston: LSE Alumni Talk with Dr Ayla Göl

We are pleased to invite you to a talk on European Union – Turkey and the Middle Eastern refugee crisis.

Tuesday February 21st, 2017 from 6:30 until 8:30pm

Location: India House - 8888 West Bellfort Avenue, Houston, TX 77031

RSVP required for roster.

Dr. Ayla Gol will discuss the rationality and politics of a deal between the EU and Turkey on the refugee crisis. She explores the EU politics that has lead to a form of activity aimed at controlling migration from the Middle East to Europe and EU relations concerned with the exercise of power. This talk will question whether or not the EU’s ‘moral high ground’ was compromised for the politics of controlling the refugee crisis through Turkey’s mediation; and looks at the extent key values such as ‘democracy, freedom and rule of law’ in an effort to protect the EU’s external borders were put aside.
