From the President

WELCOME to www.AFLSE.org the website of the Alumni and Friends of the London School of Economics in the United States, set up to provide information for alumni/ae, current and potential students, friends and others.

The AFLSE has been in existence for 35 years, and is the School’s largest and oldest alumni association outside the United Kingdom. In October 2004, we launched this new national website, which enables alumni to browse the range of cultural, social, charitable and academic events taking place in cities across the United States, provides contact information, and enables individuals to sign up and pay for AFLSE membership, and for many activities on-line by credit card. In addition the Scholarship link provides useful information for potential students.

We are continuing to expand the AFLSE's activities and membership benefits on a broad front, and believe you will be impressed by the continual upgrading and expansion of the website. Paid up members are able to login to the Membership Directory, and search the database for fellow alumni. The new Membership Benefits menu gives access to downloadable subscription forms for discounted periodicals, including the Economist as well as other discounted products and services. The Classified link enable members to post notices for apartments and roommates, for internships, job openings and more.

The goal of the AFLSE is to enrich the personal and professional lives of its members by building trusted communities in our Chapters through shared experiences from intellectually-stimulating events, networking activities and social interaction. The website provides an important tool for achieving our objectives, providing infrastructure for the Chapters, which are the lifeblood of the organization.

The individual Chapters and their events are organized by volunteers who are doing outstanding work. The web site, the AFLSE listservers in the major cities, and our professional administrative support, have a cost to AFLSE. We can only continue to expanding the services provided by the AFLSE if all alumni who participate in Chapter events, and use our facilities are willing to support the organization by joining and maintaining their Membership.

We encourage you to join or renew your membership TODAY. Membership dues are $35 per year, $100 for 3 years (tax deductible in the year in which they are paid). Life-membership payment options are also available.

If you have not already done so, LOGIN to the website, click on the Membership link to review the payment options and the membership benefits. Paying by credit card online at www.AFLSE.org is very convenient for all parties.

The AFLSE leaders and I invite you to become more involved with the organization, and look forward to having personal contact with you in the future.

Sincerely,

Beth Halpern
President
