About the Speakers

Prof Simon Hix

Simon Hix is Professor of European and Comparative Politics and Head of the at the LSE.  He is a renowned expert on European and EU politics, European elections and the European Parliament, and Britain’s relationship with the EU.  He has held visiting professor appointments at inter alia Stanford, Berkeley, UC San Diego, Sciences-Po in Paris, and the Korean Institute for International Economic Policy in Seoul.  He regular provides advice to the EU institutions and the British government and written and oral evidence to the European affairs committees in the House of Commons and the House of Lords.  Simon is also a Fellow of the British Academy.

 

 

 

 

 

Prof Tony TraversTony Travers is a Professor in the Department of Government at LSE and Director of British Government at LSE. He is a an expert on British and urban politics, city government and London.  He has been a member of the UK Audit Commission, recently chaired the London Finance Commission and is currently a member of the City Growth Commission.  He has been an advisor to a number of major foundations in the UK and the US and has given written and oral evidence to the Public Accounts Committee, the Education Committee and Communities & Local Government Committee of the House of Commons.  He writes and broadcasts in Britain and internationally.
