Director Calhoun's Visit a Success
AFLSE President Tom Kern writes about April's activities, including the LSE Director's visit to the U.S.
April was a stellar month for the AFLSE. Our chapters continue to hold a regular array of events reaching hundreds of alumni and friends. Look no further than the www.aflse.org website and the local chapter listservs to learn more about these events. Also important was the announcement of our latest AFLSE Scholarship winner. Congratulations to Adriana Lopez who will be seeking her Master's degree in Gender, Development, and Globalization during the upcoming 2014-2015 academic year. There will be a profile on her in an upcoming newsletter.
The highlight for AFLSE in April was the North American visit by Director Craig Calhoun who visited Boston, Toronto, New York, Washington, and Chicago during a whirlwind trip. Attendance at each of these events was strong—well over 100 attended the Washington reception at the British Embassy. Over 100 attended in New York and over 60 in Chicago. The Director noted in his thank you to attendees something that resonates for all of us, “please stay connected. We need you: you are the standard bearers for future generations of LSE students and alumni.” What better encouragement and support could we ask for as alumni? We wish the Director and indeed the faculty and staff well at the School and look forward to opportunities to promote alumni relations and networks. And we also look forward to the future trips by Director Calhoun to visit all of our AFLSE chapters around the country.
