The AFLSE LA chapter co-chairs are supporting this charitable event, by walking or donating. We invite all LSE friends and alums to walk to cure juvenile diabetes, as indicated below.

Sunday October 27th, 2013 starting at 8:00am

For administerial ease, we will be joining the team led by the Norland family.  If friends and alums are unable to join the walk, we invite them to click below to make a charitable donation to this cause.  This is a charity which is really using money effectively to help sick children and we hope you can make a contribution.

Jack Norland here.  I am nine years old.  I go to a school in Los Angeles called St James.  And my big, 14 year old brother has a disease called type 1 diabetes.

It is a horrible disease. Tom has to have shots every time he eats.  He also has to test his blood sugar levels by pricking his finger every four hours.  Sometimes, that's through the night too, to make sure he will wake up again in the morning.  The life long consequences of the disease are nothing that you or I would want.

Sometimes it's called Juvenile Diabetes - which doesn't mean it goes away when you grow up.  Tom will have it for the rest of his life - unless we find a cure.  (Sometimes it gets confused with Type 2 diabetes also, but it's not the same.)

Last year I walked for JDRF, which is a world-wide charity that is working on finding a cure for Tom and all those others who have it too.  I raised nearly $3000 dollars from kind people who sponsored me.  My goal is to raise even more this year because there is still no cure for the disease.  Until they find a cure, I will keep on walking every year.

It's kind of awkward to ask friends again who already gave so generously last year, so please don't feel you have to.  But if you are able, or you couldn't help out last year, a small donation would be just great.

And if anyone wants to join me on the walk, getting your friends to sponsor you so we can raise more money together,  just let me know.  It’s at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on October 27.

On behalf of my brilliant brother Tom, thanks a million,

Jack.
