Join us for a special Breakfast with Sir Vernon Ellis (Chairman) and Martin Davidson CMG (CEO) of The British Council, the UK’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities.
The British Council is a unique organization. Their wealth of knowledge and preference for working in partnership mean that everyone from individuals to major national and multinational organizations, institutions and businesses can draw on their connections and expertise. In the US, the British Council are increasingly identifying opportunities to work in partnership with American organizations on shared global agendas.
Sir Vernon Ellis became Chair of the British Council in March 2010. With a background in both business and the arts, he oversaw a period of extraordinary growth in a number of major operational roles at Accenture, including founder Chairman of Accenture Development Partnerships, and was responsible for Accenture’s activities with the World Economic Forum at Davos. He also serves as Chairman of the National Opera Studio, and through his Foundation supports several arts companies, artists and charities.
Martin Davidson CMG took up the role as Chief Executive in April 2007. He joined the British Council as Assistant Representative in Beijing in 1984, and was responsible for opening the South China office in Guangzhou. He returned to Beijing in 1995 as Director of an operation that was fast establishing a reputation in an environment where understanding the Chinese way of working is fundamental. He speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin. He is a Governor of Goodenough College and Board Member of the Great Britain China Council.
