The Alumni and Friends of the London School of Economics was pleased to co-sponsorship an event with THE CHICAGO COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS. We welcomed Sir David Manning, KCMG British Ambassador to the United States of America. He discussed "Challenges for British Foreign Policy." The event included reception, luncheon, and keynote address and was held at The Chicago Club.

Sir David Manning joined the British Diplomatic Service in 1972 and was subsequently posted to Warsaw, New Delhi, Paris, Moscow, Tel Aviv, and Brussels. In 1994, he was the British member of the ICTY Contact Group on Bosnia. In 2000 he was appointed the UK Permanent Representative to NATO. In the summer of 2000, he became foreign policy advisor to Prime Minister Tony Blair, a position he held until August 2003 when he took up his present position. He is a graduate of Oriel College, Oxford, and also studied at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Bologna, Italy.

This program was cosponsored with the Alumni & Friends of the LSE, British-American Chamber of Commerce for the Midwest, the British Midlands, The English-Speaking Union, Marshall Scholars, the North of England, Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race Dining Club of Chicago, the Oxford University Society - Illinois Branch, Scottish Development International, Visit Britain, and the Welsh Development Agency.
